HUGH BROCKINGTON

Hugh Brockington is a Los Angeles-based community organizer and economic advocate dedicated to fostering equitable urban development. Since 2011, he has worked as a professional life and fitness coach, empowering individuals to achieve personal well-being. In 2016, his global travels as a live event performer exposed him to innovative city infrastructure and transit systems around the world—experiences that deeply influenced his vision for Los Angeles.

That same year, when Metro launched its newly formed Office of Innovation, Hugh founded The HyRail LA, a community-led initiative created to bring public awareness and technical insight into the city’s transit planning process. The group quickly engaged with Metro’s Office of Innovation, successfully educating them on cost-saving, high-frequency rail technologies—particularly linear induction motor systems and lightweight, automated trains. These technologies, previously unfamiliar to Metro, are now actively under consideration for the Sepulveda Pass Transit Corridor, a multi-billion dollar infrastructure project.

Hugh’s commitment to economic and social justice led him to join the Divest LA movement in 2017, contributing to its successful campaign persuading the City of Los Angeles to divest public funds from Wells Fargo. He remained involved as the effort evolved into Public Bank LA, where he continues to advocate for a publicly owned financial institution to fund infrastructure and serve communities directly.

In 2024, Hugh launched a merchant services business to help local businesses increase their profits—furthering his belief that a thriving local economy and a fast, equitable transit system are the twin lifelines of any great city. He sees public banking as a powerful tool to achieve both.
