MONICA BALLESTEROS

Monica is a Manager at Move LA and a coalition leader with Public Bank LA. A lifelong LA County resident, Monica knows all too well about the effects of air pollution and how it can hinder everyday activities for those with respiratory ailments, as well as the need and desire for safe, accessible public transportation. For these reasons, she took a position with Move LA in 2024; it seemed the obvious choice for a new career path. On this path she found Public Bank LA. She sees public banking as a powerful, community-centered tool that can reinvest public dollars locally, lower the cost of financing critical projects, and unlock long-term, equitable development across the region.

Monica has become deeply engaged in advancing solutions that address not only Los Angeles’ persistent budget challenges, but also its climate, transit, and housing needs. From expanding transit systems to building affordable housing and strengthening essential infrastructure, Monica believes a public bank can help transform how Los Angeles meets its most pressing challenges.

She is enthusiastic about what this could do for LA, and eventually for cities across the country and is excited to continue engaging the public and spreading the word about the benefits of public banking to all Angelenos.
